Author Guidelines

Populasi is a research and critical analysis journal with population and policy as its big theme. The Editorial Board receives manuscripts related to research, both on literature review and field works, as well as the book review covering the theme. The proposed manuscripts must be original, have never been published before or being considered to be published in other media, and free from plagiarism (proven by a written statement).

Submission of Manuscripts

  • Populasi uses Open Journal System (OJS) and recommends the authors to register in advance before uploading the manuscripts online to http://jurnal.ugm.ac.id/populasi. OJS facilitates the Editorial Board, the Editorial Staff, peer review, and authors to monitor the management of the manuscripts online.
  • Manusripts in form of MS-Word could be submitted via e-mail to jurnalpopulasi@ugm.ac.id
  • Soft file could also be submitted directly to the secretariat of Populasi at Center for Population and Policy Studies, Universitas Gadjah Mada, Masri Singarimbun Building, 2nd Floor, Jl. Tevesia, Bulaksumur, Yogyakarta 55281, phone. 0274-6491153, 547867.

 

Editorial Policies of Manuscripts

Please note carefully the instruction below. The Editor have rights to return or reject the manuscripts which are not in accordance with the instructions below.

The manuscripts are written in Indonesian or English, using MS-Word, font Times New Roman, space 1, and do not exceed 10,000 words. 

Titles and sub-titles: If the manuscripts are written in Indonesian, the authors must put the title in English. The title must be spesific and effective so in one time reading, the essence of it could be understood. The title consists of 14 words at the most for the Indonesian manuscripts or 10 words for the English ones. Sub-title in the text must be clear and concise. Too many sub-titles and numbering must be avoided.

Author: Name (-s) of the author would be written under the title without any academic degrees or positions. A brief description on the origin institution of the author (-s) and e-mail of correspondence would be written under the name (-s) of the author. All are written in Indonesian and English.

Footnotes: Use footnotes rather than endnotes.

Abstract and Keywords: The manuscripts written in Indonesian must be followed with an abstract both in Indonesian and English. Meanwhile the manusripts written in English only need to include an abstract in English. An abstract is written in one paragraph which consists of 100-200 words to describe the essense of the manuscripts concisely, thoroughly, and complete in a whole. The abstract consists of main ideas of the background, problems and goals, frameworks, method, discussion and conclusion, and would be written in a different languange compared to the language of the manuscripts. The abstract would be followed by keywords which describes the most important concepts of the manuscript. The keywords consist of at least 4 words and 8 words at the most.

Tables, graphics, pictures are written in the same font size or relatively the same size, compared to font size in the manuscript. The title of tables or pictures are written in the layout as follow.

Each tables or pictures must be followed by a source or note.

Preface: describing briefly regarding the background and formulation of research problems, research goals and the relevant theoretical review. Furthermore, if it is possible, hypothesis is also mentioned in the preface.

Method: describing how the research was conducted, which included the exposure of a research design, instruments and data collecting technics/procedure, ans data analysis.

Discussion: presents the narrative of main research results which supports with tables, graphics or diagrams, and answers the research questions by interpreting the results and associating them using the established knowledge structure.

Conclusion: presents the summary and the author’s statement on the research result and discussion, and provides suggestions which not beyond the capcity of the research results and could be conducted.

Reference: consists of all refered literatures in the manuscript and does not include the literatures unrefered. The following is the consideration for the reference. The degree of literacy update refered is by looking at the proportion of the last 10 years. The more primary literatures are being refered, the more qualified the manuscripts.

Book Review. The book review must be accompanied by title of the book, the author, the publisher, the published year, and the number of pages of the reviewed book. The content of the book review consists of information and understanding of the issue to be revealed in the book, as well as the assessment and consideration to the readers of the importance of the book. The manuscript of the book review consists of 1,500 – 2,000 words.

The Writing of Reference

In the text

  • The literature refered in the text: (Gray, 2008: 501).
  • The reference in group is written alphabetically using comma to differentiate: (Brown, 2008; Gray & Gani, 1998; Stuart, 2002)
  • Use et.al. when refering to one literature written by more than two authors, but write all authors in the Reference.
  • To differentiate the different literatures written by the same author in the same year, use alphabet a, b, c, etc., as in Arifin (2002a, 2002b)
  • Do not use underline in the manuscripts, footnotes or reference.

In the Reference

  • The literatures in the reference are written in alphabetical and cronological order.
  • Literature written by one author: Singarimbun, Masri. 1996. Population and the Change. Yogyakarta: Pustaka Pelajar.
  • Literature written by more than one author: Baumert, Kevin; Ruchi Bhandari and Nancy Kete. 1999. What Might a Developing Country Climate Commitment Look Like? Washington, D.C.: World Resources Institute.
  • Authors in form of cooperation or an institution: Universitas Gadjah Mada. Center for Population and Policy Studies. 2006. “Study in the Increase of Effectivity of Raskin Program through the Assistance of Higher Education Institutions“. (Final Report). The certainty of manuscript to be accepted would be informed by e-mail correspondence or mail. While the author has not obtained such certainty yet, he/she may not send the manuscript to be published elsewhere.

 

Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.

  1. The submission has not been previously published, nor is it before another journal for consideration (or an explanation has been provided in Comments to the Editor).

    Manuskrip belum pernah dipublikasikan sebelumnya, ataupun dalam pertimbangan untuk diterbitkan di jurnal lain (atau ada penjelasan lain yang bisa diberikan dalam Komentar untuk Editor)

     

  2. The submission file is in OpenOffice, Microsoft Word, RTF, or WordPerfect document file format.

    Submisi naskah dalam bentuk Microsoft Word, RTF, atau OpenOffice.

  3. Where available, URLs for the references have been provided.

    Jika tersedia, sertakan website rujukan.

  4. The text is single-spaced; uses a 12-point font; employs italics, rather than underlining (except with URL addresses); and all illustrations, figures, and tables are placed within the text at the appropriate points, rather than at the end.

    Naskah spasi 1, ukuran huruf 12, menggunakan huruf miring daripada garis bawah, semua ilustrasi, gambar, dan tabel ditempatkan di tempat yang sesuai, tidak di akhir.

  5. The text adheres to the stylistic and bibliographic requirements outlined in the Author Guidelines, which is found in About the Journal.

    Teks berpegang pada aturan gaya dan bibliografi sebagaimana yang tertera di dalam Pedoman Penulis, yang bisa dilihat di Tentang Jurnal.

  6. If submitting to a peer-reviewed section of the journal, the instructions in Ensuring a Blind Review have been followed.

    Jika menyerahkan naskah untuk artikel yang di-peer-review, maka aturan dalam Ensuring a Blind Review akan dijalankan.

With the receipt of the article by the Populasi Editorial Board and the decision to be published, then the copyright regarding the article will be diverted to Populasi.

Center for Population and Policy Studies Universitas Gadjah Mada as the publisher of Populasi hold the copyright regarding all the published articles in this journal. 
Center for Population and Policy Studies, Universitas Gadjah Mada has the right to multiply and distribute the article and every author is not allowed to publish the same article that was published in this journal. Thanks to CPPS UGM that was funded this journal sustainability.
