OPTIMIZATION OF ETAWAH CROSS GOAT FARMING SYSTEM TO INCREASE FARMERS‘ INCOME

Abstract


A study to identify the rate of farmers‘ income from raising Etawah Crossed combined with other fann activities to achieve the optimum revenue was done in October I995. A survey was conducted in two sub—distiicts in the province of East Java using 40 fanners as respondents. The analysis used to achieve optimum solution of farmers’ income was linear programming analysis with a packet tool of LINDO. The results show that the contribution of Etawah Cross goats to total farmers’ income was around l4%, in which this activity considered a subsistence farm business. The optimal solution showed that to reach annual income of Rp 2,000,000,00 a farmer need to sell at least 8 head of adults Etawah Cross goats, in average per year. It also implied that raising the animals need good management and has to be in a fit combination with
other farm activities.
