Abstract


Zirconia is used as indirect restorative dental material for fixed denture attached in tooth structure using resin cement. Zirconiasurface can attach well at resin cement if the surface treatment is done. The aim of this study is to evaluate the effect of
the types of surface treatment and resin cement on shear bond strength of zirconia treatment with cement of fixed denture.

It was used 24 samples of cylinder-shaped zirconia of 5 mm in diameter and 3 mm in height were divided into 3 groups of surface treatment: sandblast, MDP, and combination of sandblast and MDP. Each group was given self-adhesive and adhesive resin cements and was tested for shear strength by using a Universal Testing Machine. The data were analyzed by the two-way Anova and the Least Significant Difference (LSD) test.

Results of the study show that there is significant difference between the types of surface treatmentand the types of resin cement in the shear strength of zirconia surface (p<0.05). There is no significant difference between interaction of the surface treatmentdan the types of resin cement in the shear strength of zirconia surface (p>0.05). The conclusion of this study are 1) the surface treatment by a combination of sandblastand MDP can increase the shear strength of zirconia surface attachment, and 2) the shear strength of attachment for adhesive resin cements was higher than self-adhesive resin cements.
