Abstract
The successful of root canal treatment depands on bacteria elimination. Antibacterial efficacy of chlorhexidine and sodium hypochlorite (NaOCl) are effective against Enterococcus faecalis. Additional of 8,5% Omeprazole as proton-pump inhibitorin NaOCl has shown antibacterial efficacy enhancement against Enterococcus faecalis. The aim of this research was to figure out the difference of antibacterial efficacy between 2% chlorhexidine and various concentration of NaOCl combined with 8,5% Omeprazole against Enterococcus Faecalis.
Suspension of Enterococcus Faecalis was made in 108 CFU/ml concentration and inoculated in Mueller Hinton Agar medium (MHA). Five of petri disc containing MHA were implemented by 6 agar plugs with 6 mm diameter and 3 mm depht each of petri disc. Five plugs from each disc were filled with treatment group and a plug filled with aquades as negative control, solution volume that filled into each pits was 50µl. Five groups of treatment were 2% chlorhexidine, 0,5%NaOCl, 2,5% NaOCl, 5,25% NaOCl combined with 8,5% Omeprazole dan 8,5% Omeprazole as positive control. All of the medium were incubated for 24 hour at 37oC. Inhibition zone were measured by 0,02 mm accuracy of sliding caliper. Data were analyzed using one way ANAVA and followed by using LSD test.
The results indicated that there were significantly difference of antibacterial efficacy (p<0,05). It was concluded that in comparison with 2% chlorhexidine, additional of 8,5% Omeprazole into 5,25% NaOCl showed a higher antibacterial efficacy against Enterococcus faecalis but not in the lower NaOCl concentration.
