Abstract
Denture base material are expected to withstand in the oral environment due to their interaction with acidity and alkalinity from exogenous substances during mastication. The aim of the research was to evaluate the effect of savila pH level to microhardness of polyamide and polycarbonate as denture base material.
The experimental laboratory research were used the subject of 80 plates of polyamide and polycarbonate with dimension of 64x10x2.5mm. The treatment were divided into 8 groups, each group consisted of 10 plates which were immersed in saliva with pH level 4; 6; 8, and strelized aquades as a control group for 7 days strored in incubator with temperature of 37 3 C. the microhardness measurements were done by the Vickers Tester machine. The datas were analyzed statistically by two way Anova and LSD.
The result of the research by two way Anova showed that the saliva pH level significantly influence toward the microhardness of polyamide and polycarbonate (p<0.05). LSD test showed the significant difference in polyamide group immersed in saliva pH 4, pH 6, and pH 8 (p<0.05). In summary, the saliva pH level influenced toward the microhardness of polyamide and polycarbonate. The highest microhardness decreasing of polyamide and polycarbonate were immersed in pH 4 of saliva. The Polyamide microhardness decreasing after immersed in saliva was higher than polycarbonate.
