Abstract

Fissure sealing is a method to prevent fissure caries. An ideal fissure sealant material is glass ionomer cement. The success of glass ionomer cement adhesion is affected by conditioning agent such as dentin conditioner and cavity conditioner. Both of them are different in concentration and application time. Aim of this study is to determine the influence of conditioning agent to the success of the glass ionomer cement as a fissure sealing material on deciduous and permanent teeth.
Quasi-experimental design involving 10 children, aged 7-9 years. Each subject was applied fissure sealant on deciduous second molar and first permanent molar left and right lower side, and to obtain the same circumtances, the right side was applied
glass ionomer cement and dentin conditioner, and the left side was applied cavity conditioner. The success of the glass ionomer cement adhesion was determined by measuring the infiltration of blue dye on occlusal surface which was divided into 5 areas, and each area which was not infiltrated by blue dye, indicated the success of glass ionomer cement adhesion, but each area that was infiltrated by blue dye, got a score.
The result was analyzed using Kruskal-Wallis, it showedthat the lowest mean rank was cavity conditioner on deciduous teeth, then analyzed using Mann-Whitney to know probability between groups. Conclusion, glass ionomer cement that used cavity
conditioner on deciduous teeth had the highest success rate.
