Abstract


Sodium hypochlorite, EDTA and chlorhexidine digluconate are commonly used as root canal irrigants. In irrigation procedure, the irrigant would interact with pulp chamber dentin. Final restoration using bulkfill composite resin will adhere to pulp
chamber dentin. Adhesion between composite resin and tooth structure needs bonding agents, either total-etch or self-etch. One of restoration failure is microleakage. The aim of this research was to investigate the influence of root canal irrigants and type of adhesive systems to microleakage of low viscosity bulkfill composite resin on pulp chamber dentin.
Thirty-two premolars were divided into four groups (irrigated with NaOCl 2,5%, NaOCl 2,5% and EDTA 17%, NaOCl 2.5%,EDTA 17%, and chlorhexidine 2%, control). Each group was divided into two subgroups (using total-etch and self-etch).Cavitieswere restored with low viscosity bulkfill composite resin, centrifugated, and immersed in 2% methylene blue solution then sectioned longitudinally. Methylene blue penetration was measured with stereomicroscope.
Data were statistically analyzed with two-way ANOVA followed by LSD. The results showed that the highest microleakage means was found in NaOCl, EDTA, and chlorhexidine group using total-etch. Based on ANOVA test, combination of root canal irrigants and type of adhesives influence microleakage significantly, however there were no interaction between these variables.  It could be concluded that NaOCl-EDTA resulted lower microleakage of low viscosity bulkfill composite resin compared to NaOCl  and NaOCl-EDTA-Chlorhexidine.
