Abstract


Background: Sexuality is an important aspect of life. Cancer and its treatment not only affect the physical and psychological wellbeing of patients but also can affect their sexual health.
Objective: The objective of this review is to conduct a review of the literature regarding sexuality in cervical cancer patients, after taking into consideration the principal changes produced by the disease and its treatment.
Method: This review considered references through a search of PubMed by use of the search terms “cervical cancer patients,” “therapy OR treatment,” in combination with “sexuality.”
Result: patients with cervical cancer mostly experience sexual problems, such as decreased interest and sexual activity, pain during intercourse, difficulty reaching orgasm, lack of lubrication, dyspareunia and vaginal shortness. Treatment with surgery, chemotherapy, radiotherapy, are factors that can affect sexuality and quality of life in patients with cancer.
Conclusion: Several sexuality problems found among majority of cervical cancer patients. The presence of sexual dysfunction in cervical cancer is caused by the disease and its treatment. Cervical cancer patients need nursing care intervention in sexuality aspect.

 

ABSTRAK

Latar Belakang: Seksualitas merupakan aspek penting dalam kehidupan. Kanker beserta pengobatannya tidak hanya berdampak pada kesejahteraan fisik dan psikologis pasien, namun juga dapat memengaruhi kesejahteraan seksualitas seorang individu.
Tujuan: Tinjauan literatur ini bertujuan untuk melihat aspek seksualitas pada pasien kanker serviks, berdasarkan perubahan utama yang disebabkan oleh penyakit dan pengobatannya.
Metode: pencarian literatur dilakukan pada 3 database yaitu PubMed, Science Direct dan Cochrane, menggunakan istilah pencarian “cervical cancer patients,” “therapy OR treatment,” dan "sexuality." Diperoleh sebanyak 7 orisinal artikel yang berkaitan dengan aspek seksualitas pada pasien dengan kanker serviks dalam Bahasa Inggris pada kurun tahun 2014 – 2019.
Hasil: Pasien dengan kanker serviks sebagian besar mengalami masalah seksualitas, antara lain penurunan minat dan aktivitas seksual, rasa sakit selama hubungan seksual, kesulitan untuk mencapai orgasme, kurangnya lubrikasi, dyspareunia, serta vaginal shortness. Pengobatan dengan pembedahan, kemoterapi, terapi hormon, radioterapi, dan obat-obatan menjadi faktor yang dapat memengaruhi seksualitas pada pasien dengan kanker.
Kesimpulan: Berbagai masalah seksualitas ditemukan pada sebagian besar pasien dengan kanker serviks. Adanya gangguan seksual pada pasien dengan kanker serviks disebabkan oleh penyakit dan pengobatannya. Diperlukan intervensi perawatan aspek seksualitas pada pasien kanker serviks.
