Abstract


Perkembangan media digital ataupun online sedikit banyak telah merubah budaya fans sepakbola. Fantasy Premier League (FPL) merupakan salah satu game berbasis fantasy sport yang memberikan ruang pada fans untuk bersimulasi menjadi manajer sebuah tim dan mengelola pemain-pemain yang merupakan representasi dari pesepakbola Liga Inggris divisi teratas (EPL) di dunia nyata. Penelitian ini menjawab pertanyaan: Bagaimana peran game Fantasy Premier League (FPL) dalam mengubah budaya fans dalam mendukung klub dan pemain sepakbola di era digital? Serta bagaimana bentuk perubahan budaya fans sepakbola yang bermain Fantasy Premier League dalam praktik mendukung klub dan pemain sepakbola idolanya? Menggunakan studi kasus, penelitian ini melakukan pencarian data dengan wawancara kelompok subjek yang terdiri dari enam informan pemain FPL. Penelitian ini menggarisbawahi bahwa fitur FPL yaitu liga mini memungkinkan FPL menjadi permainan yang dimainkan secara komunitas. Pergeseran kultur baru yang muncul yakni bagaimana fans tidak lagi sekedar mendukung klub sepakbola, tetapi juga mendukung tiap pemain sesuai yang mereka pasang dalam FPL, meski bertentangan dengan klub yang mereka dukung. Dengan meneliti praktik memainkan FPL, dapat dikatakan bahwa fans digital tidak semata-mata merupakan perpindahan fans sepakbola stadion dan televisi ke platform digital. Sebaliknya, game digital dapat menginisiasi lahirnya fans sepakbola (atau komunitas) dengan budaya fans sepakbola yang baru.
