By examining fourth-floor reading room of UIN Sunan Kalijaga Library, the research addresses a significant gap in inclusive design literature that has given insufficient attention to visual elements as communication tools. The findings offer crucial insights for advancing disability rights and establishing inclusive library design standards that cater to all users.

Research Methods. A practice-based research method with a three hybrid design framework approach was used to identify color and light concepts that enhance the self-sufficiency of deaf library users.

Data Analysis. Data was collected through interviews and questionnaires using a Likert scale, with the findings analyzed descriptively.

Results. This study shows that cool colors, particularly green, and evenly distributed lighting significantly enhance the emotional experience of deaf library users navigating these spaces independently. The implications for inclusive design are meaningful: libraries that thoughtfully apply appropriate color palettes and optimize lighting conditions create environments where deaf users can comfortably achieve their full academic potential and productivity.

Conclusion. This research developed a conceptual design model for library reading spaces, optimizing color and lighting to enhance independence, accessibility, and support for deaf users in higher education.
Riza Septriani Dewi, Eulis Yulianti Faridah Copyright (c) 2026 Berkala Ilmu Perpustakaan dan Informasi https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0 https://journal.ugm.ac.id/v3/BIP/article/view/19345 Mon, 12 Jan 2026 13:48:22 +0700 Library news trends in national digital media https://journal.ugm.ac.id/v3/BIP/article/view/19763
Introduction. Library coverage in digital media reflects public attention to library development. This study examines trends in library news coverage in national digital media focusing on volume, topics, library types, tone, geographic location, and photo usage.

Research Methods. A quantitative descriptive approach with content analysis was applied to 511 news articles published by Detik.com, Kompas.com, Tribunnews.com, CNNIndonesia.com, and Liputan6.com from January 2023 to December 2024. The unit of analysis consisted of news articles focusing primarily on libraries.

Data Analysis. The analysis focused on the content and context of library reporting.

Results. The findings show that themes of services, literacy activities, and facility development dominated coverage. Public libraries appeared most frequently, while community and mobile libraries received limited attention. The overall tone was predominantly positive, with coverage concentrated in urban areas, particularly DKI Jakarta. Most articles included photos to reinforce visual messages.

Conclusion. Digital media portrays libraries as progressive and relevant institutions, highlighting the need for more structured publication strategies and broader coverage to ensure balanced representation.
Yesi Melda, Nining Sudiar, Eko Noprianto Copyright (c) 2026 Berkala Ilmu Perpustakaan dan Informasi https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0 https://journal.ugm.ac.id/v3/BIP/article/view/19763 Mon, 12 Jan 2026 09:02:52 +0700 Development model of literacy tourism through architectural design and library service integration https://journal.ugm.ac.id/v3/BIP/article/view/22990
Introduction. The Museum of the Asian-African Conference, through its Literacy Festival, presents innovative library services that integrate educational, historical, and architectural elements into a unified visitor experience. This study aims to implement a literacy tourism development model that integrate architectural design and library services offering a new approach to strengthening immersive and contextual literacy learning.

Research Methods. A qualitative case study approach was applied, with data collected through participatory observation, in-depth interviews, and visual documentation during the festival.

Data Analysis. Thematic analysis was used to analyse the data with several steps such as data reduction, categorization, and narrative interpretation to explore the interaction between space and services.

Results. The narrative architectural design, featuring chronological spatial layouts, thematic lighting, and quotations from world figures, evoked emotional and cognitive responses from visitors. Library services including exhibitions, workshops, and book discussions encouraged cross-generational engagement and strengthened historical literacy.

Conclusion. The integration of colonial architecture and participatory library services creates an immersive literacy tourism model that combines cognitive, emotional, and cultural learning. This study offers an interdisciplinary perspective that positions architecture as a narrative medium within library services, providing practical insights for libraries and museums in developing experience-based literacy programs.
Diah Sri Rejeki, Sayed Muhammad Aiman Sayed Abul Khair, Haria Saputry Wahyuni, Merryam Agustine, Sari Nurvita Rianti, Erika Nurmayanti Copyright (c) 2026 Berkala Ilmu Perpustakaan dan Informasi https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0 https://journal.ugm.ac.id/v3/BIP/article/view/22990 Wed, 07 Jan 2026 14:27:51 +0700 Private partnership in advancing social inclusion-based library transformation in Tabalong, South Kalimantan https://journal.ugm.ac.id/v3/BIP/article/view/22484
Introduction. Students’ mental health is vital in higher education. Libraries serve as information hubs and spaces for relaxation, stress relief, and psychological support. This study explores library usage, key services and facilities for well-being, and the library’s role as a common space.

Research Methods. An exploratory sequential design is applied. The qualitative phase involves interviews and observations at UGM and UMY libraries to identify key indicators of services and facilities. These results inform the quantitative phase, using questionnaires distributed to 60 student users.

Data Analysis. Qualitative data are analyzed through reduction, presentation, and conclusion drawing. Quantitative data are analyzed using descriptive statistics and simple linear regression.

Results. Qualitative findings highlight the importance of consultation services, academic support, flexible spaces, and relaxation areas for student well-being. Quantitative analysis confirms significant effects of library services (t = 5.600; p < 0.001) and facilities (t = 5.300; p < 0.001), with a combined influence F = 29.732 (p < 0.001) and R² = 0.672.

Conclusion. Modern libraries should combine learning and relaxation functions. Strengthening design, technology, and psychosocial services through evaluation and collaboration is essential to create inclusive spaces that foster student mental health.
Perdaning Widyanti, Harini Desi Utami, Erna Mustika Indriani, Sukarjono Sukarjono Copyright (c) 2025 Berkala Ilmu Perpustakaan dan Informasi https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0 https://journal.ugm.ac.id/v3/BIP/article/view/17376 Wed, 03 Dec 2025 00:00:00 +0700
