Peran PkM dalam Peningkatan Kesadaran Masyarakat Tentang Perubahan Iklim dan Memanfaatkan Potensi Padukuhan Nayan yang Berkelanjutan

Abstract

Climate change is a critical issue that threatens the sustainability of ecosystems and human well-being. This article discusses the results of Community Service in Padukuhan Nayan, which focuses on increasing community understanding of the impacts of climate change and implementing adaptation measures to reduce the risks posed. This effort was realized through the collaboration of various parties, including educational institutions, government, and local communities. The program includes several main initiatives, including the Padukuhan competition, the Kali Bersih Program (Prokasih), and a community-based waste management system. Through Prokasih, residents are educated on the importance of keeping the river clean, a vital part of the surrounding ecosystem, to reduce pollution and improve water quality. In addition, community-based waste management was introduced to reduce household waste going to landfills by promoting sorting organic and inorganic waste and recycling waste that still has use value. The results of this PkM showed increased environmental awareness in Nayan residents. For example, residents began to utilize organic waste for compost and reduce dependence on single-use plastics. These efforts also impact achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), especially in managing clean water resources and health and reducing environmental impacts. In conclusion, the collaboration between parties in this PkM activity shows that climate change awareness and adaptation actions at the community level can be achieved through education and active community involvement. This collaborative model can be an example for other regions to implement similar strategies to face future climate change challenges.
