Abstract

Accurate diversity research in areas with high biodiversity is challenging. Challenges include a lack of human resources, time constraints, and difficulty in accessing remote environments for data collection. Passive-Acoustic Monitoring (PAM) has emerged as a viable ecological data collection method. This study aims to compare the PAM method with the visual count sampling method for bird diversity monitoring. This study was conducted from September 1 to November 29, 2023, on the slopes of Nggirgadung, Purwosari village, Girimulyo, Kulonprogo. The results obtained from this study revealed 42 bird species. The VES method identified 36 bird species, whereas the PAM method identified 30 bird species. However, 12 types of sounds recorded using the PAM method could not be identified. The findings suggest that while VES detected more species, PAM can complement VES by capturing visually difficult species. This study highlights the advantages of combining both methods for comprehensive biodiversity monitoring.
