Masyarakat Manusia dan Hewan Lainnya: Eksplorasi Sosiologi untuk Studi Hewan Nonmanusia

Abstract
Studi mengenai hubungan antara hewan nonmanusia dan masyarakat manusia telah menjadi topik yang menonjol beberapa dekade terakhir, salah satunya di sosiologi.Pertumbuhan studi hewan dan manusia tersebut dapat dilihat dalam banyaknya buku-buku baru, jurnal, dan konferensi di beberapa negara. Namun demikian, fokus pada hewan dalam penelitian sosiologis masih menjadi masalah yang diperdebatkan dalam banyak hal karena adanya pandangan bahwa metode dan teori sosiologi dikembangkan hanya untuk menganalisis manusia. Makalah ini bertujuan mengintrodusir kemunculan pendekatan Critical Animal Studies(CAS)dalam mengelaborasi subjek, metode, dan pendekatan kajian sosiologis terhadap non-human animal dan kemungkinan cara mengadvokasinya. Maka, makalah ini menjawab tiga hal utama yaitu bagaimana CAS melihat pentingnya sosiologi dalam studi hewan dan manusia, bagaimana CAS berargumentasi mengenai advokasi yang mungkin dilakukan, dan bagaimana tegangan peran ilmiah dan peran advokasi dalam kaitannya dengan studi hewan dan manusia. Pada bagian akhir, makalah ini diakhiri dengan catatan kritis yang mengajak pembaca untuk berdiskusi mengenai kendala dan dilema-dilema yang dihadapi ketika menerapkan studi hewan di sosiologi.
