Abstract

Background: The genetically determined epigenetic characteristics can be related to race, migration and
geographical separation patterns factor. The meaningfulness of these characteristics study is that we can
estimate genes inheritance from human skeleton remains in the burial context, look for genetic relation tract
among acient population and give information about population dynamics. Nowadys, this study also plays an
important role in osteologic analysis; itmay particularly record bonematerials that is fragmentary, incomplete and
lessmaintained fromthe remains of paleoanthropological or archaeological human. These studies can complete
each other andmay affirmthemetric features research results. Objective:The aimof this study is to find out the
biological difference and affinity of epigenetic andmetric characteristics of upper viscerocraniumfromthe skull
sampel of Liang Bua, Lewoleba,Melolo and Ntodo Leseh in Nusa Tenggara Timur.Materials andmethods:
Adults human skulls from the four sites have been selected according to anatomical–anthropological, sex,
biological age, as well as epigenetic andmetric characteristics criteria. Kruskal-Wallis’ non-parametric analysis
is applied to the quantitative data, whileAnova, Scheffe and Bivariate Scatterplot test are applied to the quantitative
data.Result and Conclusion:The biological differences and affinity of the epigenetic andmetric characteristics
on Australomelanesid upper viscerocranium’ sample in Nusa Tenggara Timur are influenced by the
chronologic of populationmigration, geographical separation, andmongolodisation process wichmore to the
east since PaleometallicAge. The epigenetic andmetric characteristics studies can complete each other and
affirm biological research results of human skeleton, without ignoring knowledge contributions and scientific
methods fromvarious discipline.
