Abstract

Air polisher is used to clean plaque and extrinsic staining as prophylaxis enamel surface prior to bonding bracket and plaque control during the treatment period replaces the use of pumice and rubber cup. It is applied by spraying directly on the
surface of the bracket and arch wire in the oral cavity. Degradation that occurs in the archwire due to the influence of mechanical or chemical processes result in changes in the morphology of the surface material, resulting in changes to the physical and mechanicaproperties of orthodontic arch wire.
The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of air polisher with sodium bicarbonate as abrasive powder, type of wire and duration of immersion in artificial saliva on resilience stainless steel and nickel Titanium wire. Research used laboratory experimental method , performed on orthodontic arch wire made of stainless steel and nickel titanium with a diameter of 0.016 Samples were divided into two groups, group I SS without spraying , group II SS with spraying and no spraying of NiTi group I group II NiTi by spraying . then divided into three sub- groups , the group T0 (no immersion and sprying), T1 (15 days immersion and sprying) and T 2 (30 days of immersion and sprying), each consisting of 5 samples. Resilience was measured using a tri-point bending test method. Analysis measurement data used tree way analyisis Variance.
The results showed there was no influences of air polishing and duration of immersion in artificial saliva on resiliences of orthodontic wires, not significant difference (p>0.05) in resilience orthodontic arch and had no interaction between sprying , type of  wire, and duration of immersion in artificial saliva. The difference was significant (p< 0.05) only between types of wire, was largely
attributable due to the different modulus of elasticity of the material of wire between stainless steel and nickel titanium .
