Abstract
Background.Statics of people with diabetes mellitus throughout the world increases every year. There are possibilities for them to get injuries in the bone. For example are fractures or defects due to the effect of the growth of tumor insistence. Diabetes
mellitus condition will cause complications in most of human organs. The healing in diabetes mellitus patient’s bone is expected to regain the normal morphology and the function of the bone. Healing metabolism process of the bone can be monitored with
osteocalsin. The addition of simvastatin can accelerate the healing process in bones. Statins are coenzyme A reductase inhibitor of 3-hydroxy-3-methylglutaril. This study aims to determine the effect of topical application of simvastatin on the expression of osteocalcin in the bone healing process of diabetes mellitus in laboratory rats.
Methods. This study is experimental research with forty five laboratory rats type SD. Group 1: 15 normal rats given a left
femur bone defects simvastatin gel and right femur bone defects empty. Group 2: 15 DM rats left femur bone defect were given CMC-Na gel and the right femur bone defects empty. Group 3: 15 DM rats were given the right femur bone defects simvastatingel. Period of decapitationonday5th, 8th and10th postmanufacturedefect.IHC examination to see osteocalcin expression.
Results. There is an increase in the percentage of osteocalcin expression in diabetic rats with simvastatin gel when compared with diabetic rats without simvastatin gel (p <0.05) onday 5th, 8th and10th
postmanufacturedefect.
Conclusion. Topical application of simvastatin on bone diabetes mellitus canin crease the percentage of osteocalcin expression during the healing processof bones.
