PENGARUH PEMAKAIAN LIP BUMPER TERHADAP AKTIVITAS OTOT BIBIR PADA ANAK TUNA WICARA USIA 7 – 15 TAHUN (Kajian di SLB Negeri I Bantul Selama 4 Minggu)

Abstract


Deaf children have limitation on lips movement in speaking because they cannot used their lip muscle like normaly children did and tend to have lower muscle activity. Lip muscle therapy can be done with appliance or without appliance. Lip bumper can increase the muscle activity. This study aims to determine the effect of using lip bumper with lip muscle activity in muted children.
This study was an quasy experimental. Subjects in this study were 12 deaf children aged 7-15 studied in SLBN 1 in bantul. Before treatment lip muscleactivity subjects was measured with plat acrylic that withdrawn upward and children hold with their lips
until the acrylic detached. Adaptive fase for using lip bumper for one week and wear minimal 2 hours in the afternoon and while sleep at night. Lip muscle activity was measured each week during 4 weeks, each measurement taken 3 times. The result were analyzed by hypothesis test repeated anova and pair wise comparison with LSD.
Results showed: lip activity of deaf children before using lip bumper 212.22 ± 8.12 N; 1-week 214.27 ± 9.03 N; 2-weeks 214.27 ± 8.87 N; 3-weeks 214.94 ± 8.56 N; and 4-weeks 217.05 ± 8.60 N. It was concluded that the using lip bumper for 4-weeks can increase lip muscle activity in deaf children.
