Journal History

Journal History and Transformation

The Jurnal Keperawatan Klinis dan Komunitas (Clinical and Community Nursing Journal) was established in 2017 as a renewal of the Jurnal Ilmu Keperawatan (JIK). The JIK was first published in 2006 and published four volumes comprising 12 printed issues until 2010. Following a period of discontinuation, the journal was reformed as the Jurnal Keperawatan Klinis dan Komunitas (Clinical and Community Nursing Journal).

The first issue, Volume 1(1), was published in 2017 and consisted of eight articles in a printed version. At that time, the journal had not yet implemented the Open Journal System (OJS), and articles available through the OJS were presented only in galley form. Since Volume 1(2), the journal has consistently published six articles per issue. In July 2017, the Jurnal Keperawatan Klinis dan Komunitas (Clinical and Community Nursing Journal) fully migrated to OJS, enabling authors to register, submit, and revise manuscripts through the online system.

However, the journal did not publish any issues in 2018. Beginning in 2019, the journal resumed publication and gradually addressed the publication hiatus by publishing manuscripts that had previously been on hold. Since Volume 5, the journal has expanded its article types by accepting literature reviews and case studies and has implemented Digital Object Identifiers (DOIs).

Editorial and Institutional Development

The Jurnal Keperawatan Klinis dan Komunitas (Clinical and Community Nursing Journal) has continuously improved its editorial and publication processes. These improvements include increasing the involvement of external peer reviewers, enhancing the OJS interface, revising the article template, and improving the peer-review process and author guidelines. The article template was updated to include ISSN, URL, DOI, article history, and copyright information. Volume 6(2) marked an important milestone with the implementation of a stricter double-blind peer-review process and greater involvement of external editors.

In 2024, the Jurnal Keperawatan Klinis dan Komunitas (Clinical and Community Nursing Journal) established a collaborative agreement with the Dewan Pengurus Wilayah Persatuan Perawat Nasional Indonesia Daerah Istimewa Yogyakarta (DPW PPNI DIY), strengthening the journal's institutional and professional collaboration.

The Jurnal Keperawatan Klinis dan Komunitas (Clinical and Community Nursing Journal) has also been accredited as SINTA 4 by the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, and Technology of the Republic of Indonesia, with the accreditation valid until July 2026.

Challenges and Future Development

One of the recent challenges faced by the Jurnal Keperawatan Klinis dan Komunitas (Clinical and Community Nursing Journal) was the delay in publishing Volume 10, Issue 2, which included the manuscript entitled "Overview of Nurses' Caring Behavior Based on Patient and Nurse Assessments in the Surgical Ward of RSUP Dr. Sardjito Yogyakarta." The delay was primarily related to technical and substantive issues encountered during the author revision process. The rigorous peer-review process required methodological refinements and deeper interpretation of the data, resulting in additional time beyond the initial editorial schedule.

These experiences highlight the journal's commitment to maintaining the quality of its publications through rigorous peer review and continuous editorial improvement. Moving forward, the Jurnal Keperawatan Klinis dan Komunitas (Clinical and Community Nursing Journal) aims to strengthen its publication quality, editorial management, peer-review practices, and institutional collaboration.
