Editorial Principles
Jurnal Keperawatan Klinis dan Komunitas (Clinical and Community Nursing Journal) is committed to maintaining the quality of scholarly publications, editorial independence, academic integrity, and confidentiality throughout the publication process.
1. Editorial Responsibility
Editors are responsible for all content published in the journal. Each manuscript is processed through editorial procedures and peer review to ensure its scientific quality, relevance, and compliance with the journal's scope and publication ethics principles.
2. Editorial Independence and Integrity
Editorial decisions are based on the scientific quality, originality, relevance, and academic contribution of manuscripts, without discrimination or influence from personal, commercial, or political interests. All editorial decisions are made objectively and independently.
3. Separation of Commercial and Editorial Interests
Commercial activities, sponsorships, and advertisements must not influence the evaluation process or publication decisions. Any relevant sponsorship must be disclosed transparently. Sponsored manuscripts must meet the same scientific evaluation standards and undergo the same peer-review process as other submissions.
4. Citation and Journal Metrics Integrity
Editors and reviewers must not manipulate citations or journal metrics to improve rankings or publication performance indicators. Citation recommendations must be based on scholarly relevance, and authors must not be required to cite specific publications without justifiable academic reasons.
5. Confidentiality of Manuscripts and Editorial Processes
The journal implements a double-blind peer-review system in which the identities of authors and reviewers are concealed from each other throughout the review process. Editors, reviewers, and other parties involved in the editorial process must maintain the confidentiality of manuscripts, review reports, correspondence, and information obtained during the evaluation process. Access to such information is restricted to authorized individuals.
Information or documents related to manuscripts may only be shared with other parties when appropriate consent has been obtained, when necessary for investigating suspected ethical misconduct, or when required by applicable law.
6. Protection of Reviewer Identities
Reviewer identities are kept confidential in accordance with the journal's double-blind peer-review policy. Disclosure of reviewer identities may only occur with appropriate consent, when necessary for investigating suspected misconduct, or as required by applicable law.
7. Handling Allegations of Ethical Misconduct
Allegations of ethical misconduct involving authors, reviewers, editors, or other parties will be handled objectively, fairly, and confidentially. When necessary, the journal may coordinate with relevant institutions or appropriate authorities to conduct further investigations in accordance with applicable publication ethics policies.
General Editorial Policies and Research Ethics
Jurnal Keperawatan Klinis dan Komunitas (Clinical and Community Nursing Journal) is committed to maintaining transparency, accuracy, scientific integrity, and adherence to ethical principles throughout the publication process. This policy applies to authors, editors, reviewers, and all other parties involved in the journal's publication process.
1. Transparency in Reporting and Authorship
1.1. Authorship and Authors' Responsibilities
-
All authors must have made substantial contributions to the research and manuscript preparation and are responsible for the accuracy and integrity of the published work. Each author's contribution should be transparently described when required.
-
Authors must ensure that all individuals who meet the authorship criteria are listed as authors and have approved the final version of the manuscript. Any changes to the authorship list after manuscript submission must be supported by a clear justification and written consent from all affected authors.
-
Authorship disputes must be resolved through the relevant institutions or appropriate independent bodies. The editors will follow up on the outcomes of such resolutions in accordance with the journal's policies.
1.2. Conflicts of Interest and Sources of Funding
-
Authors must disclose all financial and non-financial conflicts of interest that could potentially influence the research, interpretation of the results, or readers' perceptions of the article.
-
The sources of research funding must be clearly stated, including the role of the funder in the design, conduct, analysis, and reporting of the research. Information regarding conflicts of interest and funding will be included in the published article in accordance with the journal's policies.
-
Editors and reviewers must also disclose any conflicts of interest that could affect their objectivity and withdraw from the evaluation process when such conflicts cannot be adequately managed.
1.3. Transparency and Research Reporting Standards
-
Authors must present their research methods, results, analyses, and conclusions completely, accurately, honestly, and transparently. Manuscripts should explain the contribution of the research to the advancement of clinical and community nursing and demonstrate its relevance to previous studies.
-
The journal does not accept duplicate publications, unjustified redundant publications, or inappropriate fragmentation of research findings into multiple publications, commonly known as salami publication.
-
Authors are encouraged to follow reporting guidelines appropriate to their research designs, such as CONSORT for clinical trials, STROBE for observational studies, PRISMA for systematic reviews, and CARE for case reports.
-
Figures, tables, and other visual materials must be presented accurately. Misleading manipulation or alterations that obscure research findings are not permitted.
2. Publication Integrity and Handling of Complaints
2.1. Screening and Prevention of Publication Ethics Violations
-
The journal screens manuscripts for potential plagiarism, duplicate publication, data fabrication or falsification, image manipulation, and other forms of publication ethics violations. Screening may be conducted using similarity detection software and other relevant verification methods.
-
If potential violations are identified, the editors will request clarification from the authors and, when necessary, coordinate with the relevant institutions or appropriate authorities for further investigation.
2.2. Corrections and Retractions
-
If errors are identified in a published article, the journal will issue a correction when the errors do not invalidate the main findings of the research.
-
If serious errors or ethical violations undermine the reliability of the research findings, the journal may retract the article and provide an explanation for the retraction. In certain cases, the journal may issue an expression of concern while an investigation is ongoing.
-
Retracted articles will remain in the publication archive and will be clearly marked as retracted to maintain transparency and the integrity of the scholarly record.
2.3. Scientific Criticism and Scholarly Discussion
-
The journal encourages objective and constructive scholarly discussion of published articles. Criticism concerning research methods, results, interpretations, or limitations will be considered based on its relevance and scientific merit.
-
Authors may be given the opportunity to respond to criticism in accordance with the journal's editorial policies. Allegations of research or publication misconduct arising from criticism or complaints will be further examined and handled fairly, objectively, and confidentially.
3. Research Ethics Involving Human Participants and Animals
3.1. Ethical Approval and Research Conduct
-
Research involving human participants or animals must comply with applicable research ethics requirements and relevant national and international regulations.
-
For research involving human participants, authors must provide a statement confirming approval from an authorized research ethics committee or institutional review board, including the name of the approving institution and the approval number, where available. Research must be conducted in accordance with applicable ethical principles, including the Declaration of Helsinki for medical research involving human participants, where relevant.
-
The editors reserve the right to request supporting documentation or additional clarification if concerns arise regarding the ethical acceptability of the research. Ethical approval alone does not guarantee manuscript acceptance if other ethical concerns are identified.
-
Research involving animals must obtain appropriate ethical approval and comply with applicable regulations and animal welfare guidelines.
3.2. Informed Consent from Research Participants
-
Authors must describe the procedures used to obtain informed consent from research participants. Written informed consent must be obtained whenever required by applicable ethical standards and regulations.
-
For research involving vulnerable populations, authors must pay particular attention to protecting participants' rights, safety, privacy, and well-being.
3.3. Consent for Publication
-
For case reports, case series, patient photographs, or other materials that may identify individuals, authors must obtain specific consent for publication where required. Consent to participate in research does not replace consent for publication.
-
Authors must ensure that participants understand the purpose of publication and the possibility that complete anonymity cannot always be guaranteed. Consent documents must be securely retained by the authors or the relevant institution and provided to the journal when required in accordance with applicable procedures.
3.4. Data Protection and Patient Confidentiality
-
Authors must protect the identity, privacy, and confidentiality of patients and research participants. Unnecessary identifying information must be removed from manuscripts, figures, tables, and supplementary materials.
-
Patient data must be collected, stored, used, and reported in accordance with the consent provided and applicable data protection and confidentiality requirements.
-
The journal reserves the right to request clarification or reject a manuscript if serious violations of patient privacy, data confidentiality, or research ethics requirements are identified.
3.5. Compliance with Regulations and Ethical Guidelines
-
Authors must comply with national and international regulations and best-practice guidelines relevant to the design and conduct of their research. For clinical trials, authors are encouraged to register their studies in a recognized clinical trial registry in accordance with applicable standards and requirements.
-
Compliance with ethical requirements, transparent reporting, and research integrity will be considered essential components of the journal's evaluation and publication decision-making processes.
Editorial Processes
Jurnal Keperawatan Klinis dan Komunitas (Clinical and Community Nursing Journal) is committed to conducting peer review and making editorial decisions fairly, objectively, transparently, and independently. All editorial processes are carried out in accordance with the journal's scope, academic standards, and applicable publication ethics principles.
1. Peer Review Process
-
The journal implements a double-blind peer-review system, in which the identities of authors and reviewers are concealed from each other throughout the review process. Every manuscript considered for publication undergoes an initial editorial screening to assess its suitability for the journal's scope, completeness of submission requirements, scientific quality, and compliance with publication ethics.
-
Editors may reject manuscripts without peer review if they fall outside the journal's scope, fail to meet basic requirements, or have fundamental scientific weaknesses. Such decisions must be based on objective academic considerations, without discrimination based on the authors' identities, affiliations, or backgrounds.
2. Selection and Responsibilities of Reviewers
-
Editors select reviewers based on their expertise and competence relevant to the research topic and methodology. Reviewers are expected to provide objective and constructive assessments, maintain manuscript confidentiality, and disclose any potential conflicts of interest.
-
Reviewers are responsible for evaluating the scientific quality, originality, methodological validity, interpretation of results, relevance of the research contribution, and compliance with research and publication ethics. Reviewers must also report suspected plagiarism, data fabrication or falsification, duplicate publication, and other ethical violations to the editors.
-
Reviewers must not use, disclose, or exploit information obtained from unpublished manuscripts for personal or professional gain. Reviews must be completed within the timeframe established by the journal, and reviewers should inform the editors of any difficulties or conflicts of interest that may affect their ability to conduct an impartial review.
3. Communication with Authors
-
Editors are responsible for communicating review outcomes, revision requests, and editorial decisions to the corresponding author. Authors are responsible for ensuring that all co-authors are informed of and agree to the manuscript submission and publication decisions.
-
Reviewer comments are communicated to authors in their entirety whenever possible, while maintaining confidentiality and excluding inappropriate, personally offensive, or irrelevant remarks. Any request for additional reviews or changes to procedures that affect the evaluation process must be supported by clear academic reasons.
-
Editorial decisions and their principal reasons are communicated to authors. Authors may appeal editorial decisions by providing clear academic justifications and supporting evidence. Appeals will be considered objectively by the editors but do not guarantee that the original decision will be overturned.
4. Editorial Decision-Making
-
Decisions to accept, request revisions to, or reject manuscripts are based on scientific quality, originality, relevance to clinical and community nursing, methodological validity, compliance with research ethics, and conformity with the journal's policies.
-
Reviewer recommendations inform the decision-making process; however, the final decision rests with the authorized editor, with overall responsibility held by the Editor-in-Chief.
-
All editorial procedures, author requirements, accepted article types, and manuscript handling stages must be clearly communicated through the journal's website and Author Guidelines.
5. Editorial Conflicts of Interest
-
Editors must not participate in decisions concerning manuscripts in which they have a conflict of interest, whether financial or non-financial, including personal relationships, research collaborations, or institutional affiliations that could compromise the objectivity of the evaluation.
-
Manuscripts authored or submitted by the Editor-in-Chief, editors, or editorial board members must be handled by an independent editor who has no conflict of interest. Editors who are authors must not participate in editorial decisions regarding their own manuscripts, and such submissions must undergo the same review standards as other manuscripts.
-
All relevant conflicts of interest must be disclosed and managed transparently to maintain the independence, objectivity, and integrity of the editorial process.
6. Handling Reviewer Misconduct
-
Allegations of reviewer misconduct, including breaches of confidentiality, failure to disclose conflicts of interest, misuse of confidential materials, or deliberate delays in the review process for competitive advantage, will be taken seriously by the editors.
-
When serious misconduct is suspected, the journal may request clarification, conduct an internal review, or refer the matter to the relevant institution or appropriate authorities, depending on the nature of the case and applicable requirements.
