Abstract

Puntukdoro Village is one of the villages in the Plaosan area of Magetan, East Java, with the potential for cultivating and commercializing medicinal plants (TOGA). This potential is supported by its strategic geographical location, just 4.9 km from Telaga Sarangan, the most popular tourist destination in Magetan, attracting 1,007,058 visitors in 2023 (Tourism and Culture Office of Magetan, 2024). Puntukdoro Village is also located near the Sarangan highway, which experiences significant traffic. The proximity to tourist attractions and the main road gives Puntukdoro Village considerable tourism and business potential. Based on observations made by the KKN-PPM UGM team, rhizomes, particularly turmeric, are abundant. This is evidenced by the ease of finding turmeric in the area. Additionally, turmeric is very affordable, at 6,000 rupiah per kilogram. Therefore, the development of simplisia (processed plant materials) to boost the economy of Puntukdoro Village has become a program in the implementation of KKN-PPM. KKN-PPM UGM employs a real-time implementation method that begins with observing the target audience, preparing for simplistic production, demonstrating simplistic processing, and conducting sustainable simplistic marketing. The outcome of this activity is that the community's knowledge regarding the proper processing and marketing of simplisia improves, which can enhance the commercial value of TOGA in Puntukdoro Village. Time and dependence on the season are obstacles in the processing of simplicia for comunity. In the long term, an effective marketing strategy will be the key to the sustainability of simplicia products to enhance the economy of Puntukdoro Village. Furthermore, evaluation is needed to determine the level of participant satisfaction with this socialization activity.
