Abstract

This research aims to analyze the existence and position of the Protestant Christian Church as a legal entity in the Indonesian legal system, by reviewing the legal basis governing the status of the church, its rights and obligations, as well as the juridical implications of recognizing the church as a legal entity. This research was carried out using a juridical-normative research method, namely by examining various legal entities based on applicable laws and regulations. Based on this research, the author concludes that the Protestant Christian Church is recognized as a legal entity based on Staatsblad 1927 No. 156, 157, and 532. As a legal entity, the church also has land ownership rights in accordance with the Decree of the Director General of Agrarian Affairs and Transmigration Number SK.22/HK/1969 and can establish foundations to support religious and social activities. Even though the church has gained legal recognition, there is still a legal vacuum that hinders its development. Therefore, it is necessary to update regulations and procedural systems to ensure the continuity of church operations more effectively and transparently. Apart from that, the government needs to improve administrative and procedural aspects in the establishment and management of churches so that they are more easily accessible and do not become obstacles in carrying out religious and social missions.
