Abstract


Tulisan ini adalah ringkasan dari hasil sebuah penelitian yang bertujuan untuk memahami secara kritis serta menciptakan pengetahuan baru, tentang bagaimana makna dan praktik sosial terbangun di sekitar handphone. Ia menggambarkan wilayah serta momen, dimana mobilitas muncul sebagai konsep dan pengalaman yang dibayangkan, bertransformasi menjadi beragam bentuk infrastruktur lain, dan tertangkap sebagai bagian dari taktik dalam relasi baru antara teknologi dan penggunanya. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan pembentukan infrastruktur komunikasi baru baik, muncul dalam bentuknya yang konvensional, maupun agen teknologi informasi, ruang-ruang intimasi dimana bahasa dan kosakata yang termediasi oleh teknologi komunikasi diciptakan, maupun kecanggungan dan kepanikan ketika berhadapan dengan logika jarak, waktu, dan kedekatan, yang berbeda. Semuanya mengindikasikan produksi budaya baru dimana beragam moda keterlibatan dan partisipasi dibayangkan ulang.
