Hidup Bersama Sampah: Pemaknaan Nilai Sampah dan Cara Hidup Pekerja TPS Dinoyo, Kota Malang
Abstract
Pekerja sampah di TPS Dinoyo, kota Malang, harus bertahan hidup di antara himpitan tekanan ekonomi dan lingkungan kerja atas pemenuhan kebutuhan sehari-hari. Tekanan ekonomi dapat dihasilkan dari situasi seperti meningkatnya kebutuhan harga komoditas pangan, hingga tiadanya pemenuhan hak kerja para pekerja sampah sebagai pekerja informal. Bertahannya mereka pada pekerjaan pengelolaan sampah membuat saya mengajukan pertanyaan, bagaimana cara pekerja sampah bertahan hidup di tengah tekanan ekonomi dan lingkungan kerja di sekelilingnya. Untuk menjawab pertanyaan yang diajukan tersebut, saya mengusahakan riset ini dari sisi pemilahan sampah sebagai cara untuk memperoleh keuntungan ekonomi. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode etnografi dengan mengolaborasikan beberapa metode observasi-partisipasi, penulisan catatan lapangan, wawancara mendalam, serta pencarian sumber dokumentasi dan arsip. Dengan mengajukan teori sampah serta penelusuran soal pemilahan sampah, hasil penelitian ini kemudian menunjukkan bahwa ada keterlibatan yang penting antara sampah yang dikelola dan cara bertahan hidup para pekerja sampah dari entitas yang dikelolanya.
