Expedition Content: Suara Melampaui Sinema
Abstract
Expedition Content (2020) disutradari oleh seniman suara dan sutradara Amerika, Ernst Karel dan antropolog Indonesia, Veronika Kusumaryani. Film yang telah menjadi official selection dalam Berlin International Film Festival dan Vision du Reel tahun 2020 ini menjadi salah satu pilihan dalam program Perspektif pada Festival Film Dokumenter (FFD) 2022. Diputarkan di Gedung Ex Bioskop Permata, Yogyakarta, FFD untuk pertama kalinya memberikan ruang pada publik Indonesia untuk mengalami film ini. Expedition Content adalah karya kompilasi suara yang disusun dari rekaman arsip selama 37 jam. Karya ini mendokumentasikan pertemuan antara ekspedisi yang dilakukan para peneliti dari Amerika dengan orang-orang Hubula. Expedition Content adalah bagian dari produksi Sensory Ethnography Lab di Harvard University. Sensory Ethnography Lab (SEL) adalah laboratorium eksperimental yang berinovasi melalui kombinasi estetika dan etnografi. Lebih dari catatan etnografi konvensional, film ini membangun interaksi, yang dalam benak penonton, menciptakan relasi antara etnografer dan subjek yang diteliti. Interpretasi tekstual dari apa yang disajikan dalam film ini, maupun kontekstual dari subteks-nya, muncul dari ketiadaan perangkat visual yang memadai. Alih-alih membatasi, ketiadaan visual justru menjadi kekuatan film ini.
