GAMAWINGS: Sistem Drone Pintar Fotovoltaik untuk Deteksi Radiasi dan Monitoring Lingkungan guna Mewujudkan Kawasan yang Inklusif, Aman, dan Berkelanjutan
Abstract
The discovery of radioactive substances at the Batan Indah housing complex in 2020 provided clear evidence of radioactive material dispersion within residential areas. Therefore, there is a pressing need for a practical, unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) capable of detecting environmental radioactivity with minimal contact with the material in commercial locations – specifically, a drone. This drone will execute three simultaneous missions, powered by an integrated battery system supplemented by solar panels covering its surface. The drone's payload will include a data logger utilizing IoT, a radiation detector, and GNSS (Global Navigation Satellite Systems). The first mission is scouting. The drone will follow a "boustrophedon" path, integrated with GNSS. A LiDAR (Light Detection and Ranging) sensor within the payload will be used to create a 3D Contour Map using the SLAM (Simultaneous Localization and Mapping) algorithm. The second mission is monitoring. A Geiger-Müller detector and light sensor devices will continuously visualize a radioactivity heatmap overlaid onto the 3D contour map. Once the scouting and monitoring missions are complete, the radiation and contour data of the location will be visualized using an AoI (Radiological Area of Interest). To identify hotspots from the highest heatmap readings, a third mission will be executed using the TSP (Traveling Salesman Problem) to land the drone, equipped with a scintillation detector, within the AoI. This allows for the identification of radionuclide types, enabling appropriate follow-up actions by radiation protection officers. All collected data will be integrated into a website system managed by the authorized agency. This agency will then transmit real-time information as an early warning system regarding radioactivity levels to a mobile application, accessible to both the public and commercial sectors. Hence, GAMAWINGS is envisioned as a Minimum Viable Product (MVP) to address various radioactive issues. The ultimate goal is to foster inclusive, safe, and sustainable commercial locations, contributing to the achievement of net-zero emissions by 2060.
