Manuscript Preparation

Jurnal Psikologi (JPsi), also known as the Indonesian Journal of Psychology, follows the Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association (7th edition) for manuscript organization, reporting, and citation style. Research articles should generally follow the IMRaD structure (Introduction, Method, Results, and Discussion), as appropriate to the study design. Authors must follow the journal's requirements and relevant APA 7 guidelines. Manuscripts that do not meet essential requirements may be returned for correction or declined before peer review.

Authors must prepare their manuscripts using the journal's official manuscript template and follow all applicable requirements specified in the Manuscript Structure table below. These requirements cover manuscript organization, references, reporting standards, ethical declarations, and other applicable submission requirements. Compliance with the guidelines and template helps facilitate editorial screening and peer review.

Important: Authors are not required to prepare the final publication layout or format their manuscripts in LaTeX. The journal's technical team will handle the final typesetting and layout after formal acceptance. Authors should therefore focus on the scientific quality, accuracy, completeness, and compliance of their manuscripts with the journal's guidelines and official template.

Ethical Approval and Clearance

Manuscripts reporting research involving human participants, identifiable human data, or other activities requiring ethical oversight must include an ethics statement in the Methods section. The statement should provide the full name of the approving ethics committee or Institutional Review Board (IRB) and the approval number or reference code. Where applicable, authors must describe how informed consent was obtained. If the study was formally exempt from ethics review, authors should identify the body that determined the exemption and explain the basis for it. Requirements may vary by study design and applicable institutional or national regulations.

Online Submission Procedure

Jurnal Psikologi (JPsi) uses an online submission system to manage manuscript submissions, peer review, and editorial decisions. Before submitting, authors should ensure that their manuscripts and all required supporting documents comply with the journal's requirements. Incomplete submissions or manuscripts that do not meet essential requirements may be returned for correction.

General Author Guidelines

  1. Submit manuscripts online through the Jurnal Psikologi website .
  2. New users must register an account. Existing users can log in.
  3. Use an active email address for your account. If you forget your password, select Forgot Your Password? and follow the instructions sent by email.
  4. After logging in, select New Submission and follow the on-screen instructions.

  6. Manuscript Preparation and Compliance: Authors must follow all applicable requirements in the Author Guidelines, particularly those presented in the Manuscript Structure table. Manuscripts must be prepared using the official journal template and comply with the applicable requirements for manuscript structure, references, reporting standards, and ethical declarations. Authors should ensure that the manuscript is complete, accurate, and ready for editorial assessment.
  7. Final Typesetting and Layout: Authors are not required to prepare the final publication layout or format their manuscripts in LaTeX. After a manuscript has received formal acceptance for publication, the journal's technical team will handle the final typesetting and layout using LaTeX in accordance with the journal's publication standards. Authors should focus on the scientific content and compliance of their manuscripts rather than on producing a publication-ready layout. Authors may be asked to review the proofs and verify the accuracy of the final typeset article before publication.

References

All sources cited in the text must appear in the reference list, and every entry in the reference list must be cited in the text. Format references in accordance with APA 7. Authors should prioritize relevant primary research and recent literature where appropriate. Foundational works and older sources may also be cited when they remain important to the study. For guidance, consult the Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association (7th ed.) or the APA Style website.

For references originally published in a language other than English, retain the original title and provide an English translation in square brackets immediately after it, where appropriate and consistent with APA 7. Authors are encouraged to use reference- management software such as Zotero, Mendeley, or EndNote. If required by the submission workflow, export the reference library in .bib format using the Tutorial for Creating a .bib File in Reference-Management Software.

Use of Artificial Intelligence (AI)

Jurnal Psikologi (JPsi) recognizes that artificial intelligence (AI) tools, including generative AI applications and large language models (LLMs), may assist authors with certain aspects of manuscript preparation. However, their use must comply with the journal's publication ethics policy and must not compromise academic integrity, research transparency, or the originality and validity of scholarly work.

Disclosure of AI Use

Authors must disclose the use of generative AI tools in preparing their manuscripts, including their use for drafting, generating, or substantially revising manuscript content. The disclosure should identify the AI tool used and describe its purpose and role in preparing the manuscript. Authors should follow the journal's prescribed format for this declaration.

Authors' Responsibility and Accountability

Authors remain fully responsible for the accuracy, originality, validity, and integrity of their manuscripts, including any content generated or revised with AI assistance. All AI-assisted content must be carefully reviewed and verified by the authors. Authors are responsible for identifying and correcting inaccurate information, fabricated references, unsupported claims, and other errors that may arise from the use of AI tools.

AI Cannot Be Listed as an Author

AI tools, generative AI applications, and large language models cannot be listed as authors or co-authors. Authorship is reserved for individuals who meet the journal's authorship criteria and can accept responsibility for their contributions to the work. The use of AI does not transfer or diminish the authors' academic and ethical responsibilities.

Prohibited Uses of AI

AI must not be used to fabricate or falsify research data, generate misleading research findings, manipulate evidence, or create fictitious references. Authors must not use AI in ways that compromise research ethics, participant confidentiality, data protection, or the integrity of the scholarly record.

For further information, authors are required to consult the journal's Publication Ethics and Publication Malpractice Statement. Failure to comply with this policy may result in requests for clarification or corrective action, or other measures in accordance with the journal's publication ethics procedures.

Manuscript Structure

Authors should use the following table as a checklist when preparing their manuscripts. All applicable requirements should be addressed before submission. The official manuscript template should be used together with these guidelines.

Title Titles should be concise, informative, and specific, with a maximum of 14 words. The title should accurately reflect the main topic of the manuscript and support effective indexing and retrieval. Avoid abbreviations, unexplained jargon, and mathematical formulas where possible. Author Names and Affiliations Do not include academic titles, honorifics, official ranks, or professional positions in the author byline. Provide each author's full name, with spelling checked carefully. List the institutional affiliation(s) where the research was conducted, including the department or unit, faculty or school, institution, city, and country. List authors in the order agreed upon by all co-authors to reflect their contributions.
Abstract Provide abstracts in both English and Indonesian. Each abstract should be a single paragraph of no more than 200 words and concisely summarize the study's background or objective, methods, principal findings, conclusions, and theoretical or practical implications, as applicable. Avoid citations. Define or avoid abbreviations.
Keywords Provide four to five relevant keywords or phrases, listed alphabetically and separated by semicolons. Avoid terms that are overly broad or unnecessarily long.
Introduction Present the study's background, relevant literature, research problem or knowledge gap, rationale and originality, and specific objectives or hypotheses. Use primary sources where possible and avoid secondary citations when the original source is available.
Methods

Provide sufficient detail about participants or data sources, materials or instruments, research design, and procedures to enable readers to understand and, where appropriate, replicate the study.

Ethics statement: Report the ethics committee's full name and approval or reference number, or explain the formal basis for an exemption. Describe informed-consent procedures where applicable, particularly for studies involving interviews, surveys, interventions, human interaction, or sensitive personal data.

Use of generative AI in research: If generative AI tools were used in research procedures, data processing, analysis, interpretation, or the creation of research materials or visual assets, describe the tool, its purpose, and how it was used. AI use for manuscript writing or editing should also be disclosed when required by the journal's Generative AI Policy. Authors remain responsible for the accuracy and integrity of the work. Consult the COPE guidance on authorship and AI tools.
Results Present findings clearly, logically, and objectively. Use tables and figures where they improve understanding, and ensure that the results address the stated research questions or hypotheses. Avoid interpreting results in detail in this section unless the chosen article format requires an integrated Results and Discussion section.
Discussion Interpret the findings in relation to relevant empirical literature and theoretical frameworks. Explain the theoretical, practical, or policy implications as appropriate, and discuss the study's strengths and limitations. Do not simply repeat the results.
Limitations Clearly describe methodological, theoretical, or contextual limitations that may affect interpretation, generalizability, or the scope of the findings. Explain, where possible, how future research could address these limitations. If the journal's template incorporates limitations into the Discussion, a separate heading is not required.
Conclusion, Implications, and Recommendations Summarize the conclusions supported by the findings and connect them to the research objectives. State relevant theoretical, practical, or policy implications and offer recommendations for future research or practice where warranted. Avoid repeating the Results section verbatim.
Acknowledgments Acknowledge individuals or organizations that made a meaningful contribution but do not meet the journal's authorship criteria, such as research assistants or technical editors. Name funding organizations using their official names. Confirm that individuals named in the acknowledgments have agreed to be acknowledged.
Funding Disclose all funding that supported the research, writing, or publication, including the funder's name and grant number where applicable. For example: "This work was supported by [Funder Name] (grant number [XXX])." If the work received no specific funding, state this explicitly. Adjust the wording to reflect the actual funding arrangement.
Authors' Contributions Describe each author's specific contributions using initials or another clearly defined identifier. For example: "AKP and GL conceptualized and designed the study. SR, BW, and ALD conducted the data analysis. All authors reviewed and approved the final manuscript." Authorship should be limited to individuals who meet recognized authorship criteria, and all listed authors should approve the final manuscript.
Conflict of Interest Disclose any financial, personal, or professional relationships that could influence, or reasonably be perceived to influence, the research or its reporting. If no conflicts exist, include an explicit statement to that effect.
Declaration of Generative AI Use

Authors must disclose the use of generative artificial intelligence (AI) tools when such tools are used to generate or substantially develop manuscript content, analyze or interpret research data, or perform other substantive tasks related to the research or manuscript preparation. The declaration should identify the AI tool used, explain its purpose, and describe the nature and extent of its contribution.

The declaration must be included in the Methods section or in a separate subsection entitled Declaration of Generative AI Use, as appropriate to the nature of the AI-assisted activities and in accordance with the journal's requirements.

Example (AI used): "During the preparation of this manuscript, the authors used [AI tool name] for [specific purpose]. The authors reviewed and revised the AI-generated output and take full responsibility for the accuracy, originality, and integrity of the final manuscript."

Example (no generative AI used): "The authors declare that no generative AI tools were used to generate or substantially develop the content of this manuscript."

The use of AI tools solely for basic language editing, such as correcting grammar and spelling, improving readability, or refining writing style, does not require formal disclosure, provided that such use does not involve generating or substantially developing manuscript content. AI tools must not be listed as authors.

Authors are responsible for verifying all AI-assisted content and ensuring compliance with the journal's Author Guidelines and COPE guidance on authorship and AI tools.
ORCID iD All authors must provide valid ORCID iDs. Authors who do not yet have an ORCID iD can register for free at ORCID.
Figures and Tables Refer to every table and figure in the main text and explain its relevance to the findings. Format tables and figures according to APA 7 and the journal's template. Submit figures at publication- appropriate resolution in an accepted file format, such as JPEG or PNG, if required by the submission system. Provide accessible labels and captions where appropriate.
Reporting Standards Authors should follow the APA Journal Article Reporting Standards (JARS) relevant to their research design, including quantitative, qualitative, or mixed-methods research. Consult the relevant checklist before submission.

Sample Size Justification

Authors must justify the sample size in relation to the research question, design, target population, and planned analyses.

Quantitative research: Provide an a priori power analysis where appropriate, or another defensible statistical or methodological rationale. A single minimum sample size should not be applied indiscriminately to every design or population.

Small or specialized populations: Where large samples are not feasible, explain the recruitment constraints and use a suitable methodological rationale, with supporting references where appropriate.

Qualitative research: Explain sample adequacy using principles appropriate to the chosen approach, such as information power, data saturation, or thematic sufficiency, supported by relevant methodological literature.

Editorial screening: Manuscripts may be returned or declined before peer review if sample size, sampling, or analytical choices are not adequately justified for the research design.
Supplementary Materials Submit relevant supplementary materials, such as questionnaires, code, protocols, or datasets, where applicable and permitted by consent, ethics approval, confidentiality obligations, and data- protection requirements. Remove identifying information and explain any access restrictions.
Note: During production, authors may be asked to provide editable source files, high-resolution figures, or revised files that meet the journal's technical requirements. The journal's technical team will manage the final typesetting and layout.

Important Information for Authors

Fast-Track Publication and Letter of Acceptance (LoA) Policy

Jurnal Psikologi (JPsi), also known as the Indonesian Journal of Psychology, does not offer fast-track publication services or instant issuance of a Letter of Acceptance (LoA). All submitted manuscripts must undergo the journal's established editorial screening and peer-review procedures before an editorial decision is made.

This policy is intended to safeguard academic integrity and ensure that every manuscript receives a fair, objective, and thorough evaluation. Editorial decisions are based on the manuscript's scientific quality, originality, relevance, methodological rigor, and compliance with the journal's publication standards, rather than on the author's willingness to pay for expedited processing.

A Letter of Acceptance (LoA) is issued only after a manuscript has received formal acceptance through the journal's official editorial process. The journal does not provide instant LoAs, guarantee acceptance within a specified period, or authorize third parties to offer expedited acceptance on its behalf.

Authors are strongly advised to exercise caution when approached by individuals or third-party services promising fast-track publication or instant LoAs in exchange for payment. Such offers may involve fraudulent practices, unauthorized use of the journal's name, or unethical publication services, including potentially predatory journals.

Official communication: All inquiries concerning manuscript status, editorial decisions, and LoA issuance should be directed to the journal's editorial team through its official communication channels. Authors should verify any publication offers or claims of affiliation with JPsi directly with the journal before making payments or sharing manuscript-related information. JPsi is not responsible for unauthorized offers made by third parties claiming to represent the journal.

Duplicate or Simultaneous Submissions

A manuscript must not be under consideration by more than one journal at the same time. Simultaneous submission is considered unethical publishing practice. Authors must also disclose any substantial overlap with previously published or submitted work.

Instructions for Revised Submissions

  1. Prepare a point-by-point response to all reviewer comments. For each comment, provide a response and identify the location of any change (page, section, or paragraph) in the revised manuscript.
  2. Submit a marked-up version of the revised manuscript showing all changes using Microsoft Word Track Changes or the highlighting method specified by the editor.
  3. Address each reviewer comment individually. If a suggestion is not adopted, provide a clear and respectful explanation.
  4. Submit the revision within one month of the revision request, unless the editor specifies another deadline or approves an extension. If a revision is not received by the deadline, the journal may close the submission after notifying the authors.

After Acceptance

After formal acceptance, the manuscript proceeds to the journal's production process. The journal's technical team will handle the final typesetting and layout using LaTeX in accordance with the journal's publication standards. Authors are not required to prepare the final layout themselves.

The corresponding author will receive instructions for reviewing the copyedited or typeset proofs. Authors should carefully check the text, author details, tables, figures, references, and other publication elements. Any errors identified during proof review should be reported promptly. Substantial changes after acceptance require prior approval from the editor. Authors should return proof corrections by the stated deadline. Copyright or licensing arrangements must be completed in accordance with the journal's published policy before publication.

Article Processing Charges (APCs)

Jurnal Psikologi (JPsi) charges an article processing charge (APC) of IDR 1,500,000 for each published article. The journal operates under an open access policy, allowing readers to access published articles online free of charge.

The APC is a publication fee charged to cover the costs associated with publishing the article. Authors are required to pay the publication fee after their articles have been published.

The invoice will be issued and sent through the journal's system by the Finance Office of the Faculty of Psychology, Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM), after the article has been published. Authors are expected to follow the payment instructions provided in the official invoice.

Editorial decisions are independent of authors' ability or willingness to pay the APC. All manuscripts are evaluated based on their academic quality, originality, relevance, and compliance with the journal's editorial standards. Payment of the APC does not influence editorial decisions or guarantee acceptance for publication.

Authors who require information about any applicable fee waivers or discounts should contact the editorial office before submitting their manuscripts.

Post-Publication

After online publication, authors may:

  1. Receive a publication notification by email.
  2. Share the official article link through appropriate professional and institutional channels.
  3. Promote the article through relevant academic networks and public-engagement activities.

Promotion and Outreach

  • Share the article through personal or institutional social media accounts and relevant research networks.
  • Present the findings at academic conferences, webinars, and public forums.
  • Discuss the implications of the research in podcasts, interviews, or other media, where appropriate.
  • Create accessible visual summaries, infographics, or short videos to help communicate the findings to broader audiences.

Article Withdrawal

Authors are expected to submit manuscripts only when they are not under consideration by another journal and when they are prepared to participate in the editorial process in good faith. Withdrawal after peer review has begun can waste the time and effort of editors and reviewers. Authors who wish to withdraw a manuscript must submit a formal request and provide a clear reason for the withdrawal.

Withdrawal Policy

  1. Withdrawal Request: Authors who wish to withdraw a manuscript must submit a formal request using the official Withdrawal Request Form. The request must state the reason for withdrawal and be signed or confirmed by the corresponding author on behalf of all co-authors.
  2. Withdrawal after Peer Review: If a withdrawal request is submitted after the manuscript has entered the peer-review process, a withdrawal fee of IDR 500,000 per manuscript will apply. This fee reflects the editorial and reviewer resources already invested in evaluating the manuscript. The editorial office will provide payment instructions and confirm the withdrawal in writing once the applicable requirements have been fulfilled.
  3. Withdrawal after Acceptance: If an author requests withdrawal after the manuscript has been formally accepted for publication, the editorial board may prohibit the author(s) from submitting manuscripts to Jurnal Psikologi (JPsi) for two years. Any such restriction will be determined after considering the circumstances and reasons for the withdrawal.
  4. Simultaneous Submission: Authors must not submit the same manuscript to another journal while it is under consideration by Jurnal Psikologi (JPsi). Submitting the manuscript to another journal or publishing it elsewhere without first obtaining official confirmation that the submission process at JPsi has ended constitutes a potential violation of publication ethics and may result in appropriate editorial action.
  5. Non-Compliance: Failure to comply with the applicable withdrawal requirements may result in restrictions on future submissions to Jurnal Psikologi (JPsi). Any additional action will be determined by the editorial board after considering the nature and severity of the violation. The withdrawal fee does not replace an investigation into potential publication ethics violations.
  6. Published Articles: Previously published articles will not be removed solely because an author fails to pay a withdrawal fee. Any correction or retraction of a published article must be based on appropriate publication integrity considerations and handled in accordance with the journal's publication ethics policies and applicable guidance from the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE).

By submitting a manuscript to Jurnal Psikologi (JPsi), authors acknowledge their responsibility to comply with these guidelines and the journal's publication ethics requirements.
