Abstract

This study aimed to evaluate the knowledge, attitude, and utilization of AI tools in pharmacy education and healthcare among pharmacy students in Klang Valley. A cross-sectional study was conducted among the pharmacy students in Malaysia by using a self-administered questionnaire and the participants were recruited by convenience sampling method. The questionnaire consisted of four sections which were socio-demographic and personal characteristics of the participants, current use of AI tools and their purpose in using, knowledge of AI in pharmacy education and healthcare, and perception towards AI and deep learning in pharmacy education and healthcare. The knowledge section had a total possible score ranging from 0-4 where (poor 0-2; good >2) whereas the attitude possible score was within 0-50 where (negative 0-25; positive >26). All appropriate data from the study was analyzed by IBM Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) Statistics Version 26. A total of 403 participants were recruited in this survey and based on the results, almost all of the participants (99.3%, n=400) reported using ChatGPT, followed by QuillBot (58.1%, n=234) as the second most currently used AI tool. Most of the respondents (90.6%, n=365) used AI tools to doubt clearance while a significant portion of them (78.9%, n=318) also utilized the AI tools to complete their projects and assignments. Moreover, more than half of the participants (56.8%, n=229) showed good knowledge of AI while the majority of them (98.3%, n=396) expressed a positive attitude towards AI. However, no associations were found between the socio-demographic characteristics with knowledge and attitude of the participants. In conclusion, pharmacy students in Klang Valley demonstrated good knowledge of AI and immense positive attitudes towards AI tools in pharmacy education and healthcare. The study underscores the need to integrate AI education into the pharmacy curriculum to address knowledge gaps and better prepare students for future technological advancements.
