Jelly candy with snake fruit and banana fruit formulation as a source of iron to overcome anemia for among adolescent girls

Abstract

Introduction: One of the reason for the lack of iron consumption in adolescent girls is the fishy smell and nausea which can be reduced by consumption of Jelly Candy with snake fruit and banana fruit formulations.

Objectitve: This study aimed to determine the effect of iron (Fe) fortification on jelly candy products with Salak and Banana Fruit Formulations.

Method: For this research, true experimental pre-test post test research design has been adopted. This study was conducted in selected Tasikmalaya district. Purposive sampling technique was used to select 86 participants and 43 recruited for each group. Blood samples were taken by using Digital Hemocuemeter. Both each groups were given jelly candy (Intervention) and iron (Fe) of Program (Control).

Result: After the intervention mean score 10,35, there is an increase of 0.13 the hemoglobin level after being given jelly candy. And t-value 0,000, it was significant at p ˂ 0.0001.

Conclusion: The study proved that jelly candy with snake fruit and banana fruit formulation have effect to inreasing in Hb levels of anemic for adolescent girls.
