Arnawa is a peer-reviewed journal devoted to the philological, literary, linguistic, and cultural study of local textual traditions in the Indonesian archipelago, with a primary focus on Javanese sources. The journal serves as a specialized platform for critical inquiry into manuscripts, inscriptions, oral texts, and literary heritage rooted in the languages and cultures of Java, Bali, and other regional traditions within Nusantara. We welcome research grounded in the disciplines of philology, codicology, textual criticism, historical linguistics, literary analysis, and cultural hermeneutics, especially those that engage with classical and modern texts, traditional performance, or language practices that reflect the intellectual and cultural continuity of archipelagic Southeast Asia. Published biannually by the Javanese Language, Literature and Culture Study Program, Faculty of Cultural Sciences, Universitas Gadjah Mada, Arnawa fosters deep disciplinary engagement with the textual and intellectual traditions that shape local epistemologies across the Indonesian archipelago.
